Construction glossary term

Phase

A phase in a construction project is a series of distinct steps taken to complete the entire construction process. This can include everything from initial planning and design, to purchasing materials and acquiring permits, to managing subcontractors and completing regular progress inspections.

A typical residential construction project will involve multiple phases including: Planning/Design - Creating floor plans, wire schematics, design choices; Pre-Construction – Establishing a budget, selecting a contractor and obtaining permits; Procurement - Scheduling materials, finalizing agreements; Construction – Framing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC installation; Post-Construction – Finalizing tasks, completing punch lists, cleanup.
